DIY menu board

For the longest time, I have been wanting to make a menu board. In fact, it is one of the things listed on my summer bucketlist. But now I get to cross it off because I just finished making one. Here's how it turned out:

I'm really glad I made it small and simple, because at first, this is what I had in mind:
cute idea. but i might be too spontaneous to plan this far ahead. :)
But let's face it, there is no such room in my current apartment for something like that. (However, one day I would like to make one.)

Okay. here's what you'll need:
a board, chalk board paint, scrapbooking paper, mod podge, a brush, masking tape, chalk, and acrylic paint (optional)

This is the board I chose:
I found it at wal-mart. It contains 9 wooden tiles, but I just took out all the tiles and used the blank board underneath. ($7)

Step One: tape the outside border

Step Two: paint the board with 3 or more coats of the chalk board paint (follow the directions on the can)

Step Three: Cut out the letters that you want for your board and place them where you want.

Step Four: Mod-podge the letters (i did a few coats)

Step Five: take the paint off of the edges

 Step Six: Paint a border.
I painted it a blueish/greenish color a couple of times.
Then I spray-painted black over the top. And sanded it down so that the the blueish/greenish color is peaking out

Here is the final product (and consequently a list of what we're having for dinner next week):
